Al Masjid Al Azhar (the most blooming), established on 14th of Ramadân 359 Hijra, just shortly before the founding of Cairo itself. It was built in two years nearly. Designed by Jawhar El-Sequili and built on the orders of Caliph Muezz Li-Din Allah. The first Salât was done on 7th of Ramadân 361 Hijra. Located in the centre of an area teaming with the most beautiful Islâmic monuments from the 10th century, it was called "Al Azhar" after Fatima al-Zahra, daughter of the Prophet Muhammad Sala-llahu Alahi Wa Salam. It imitated both the Amr Ibn El-As and Ibn Tulun Masjid.
