Terenganu Offers To Host Internationall Al-quran Recital Contest

KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- Terengganu has offered to host the Al-Quran recital contest either at national or international level at Taman Tamadun Islam currently under construction on Pulau Wan Man here.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the park was 86 per cent complete and was expected to be ready by early next year.

It would be opened to the public in March, he said.

"We've asked the contractor to speed up the job. When the park is ready, we will offer to host the quran reading contest at national or international level," he told reporters after inspecting the site Thursday.

Idris said to date about RM180 million of the RM250 million allocation has been used to build replicas of world's famous mosques and historical places and a Crystal Mosque in the park.

Among the historical monuments are Al-Aqsa Mosque (Jerusalem), Taj Mahal (India), Al-Hambra (Spain), Kaylan Tower (Uzbekistan) and Kudus Minar (Indonesia).

Others include the Great Mosque of Samarra (Iraq), Sulayman Complex (Turkey), Shaikh Lutfallah (Iran), Great Mosque of Xian (China), Kul Sharif Mosque (Russia) and Qairawan (Tunisia).

"The work to build the park is a bit slow in the final stage because it needs detailed and careful artistic skills to build the dome and walls compared to the early stage of construction," he said.

Idris said the park would also have a convention centre that can accommodate 3,000 people.

He said the 33-hectare park, called Islamic Civilization Park, located on the edge of Sungai Terengganu, would be used to host religious functions.

"The state government will invite Al-Quran reciters from Mecca, Iran, Iraq and Tunisia to recite the Holy Book at the park when it is completed," he said.

The State Economic Development Corporation has been tasked with managing and supervising the park's construction, he added.
